Perhaps our Country is past it's prime & tries to punch above it's weight sometime & although I have Foreign Father, I feel proud to be English. The Welsh, the Scots & the Northern Irish seem to be getting a degree of "own government" I do feel the English get let down quite a bit. So St. George may be a foreigner, debunked by the Church, but he'll do until something better comes along

England and St George

By Maxwell Dunlop

I have but one thing on my mind
A passion burning bright,
Crossed by my heart a fiery red,
On a field of the purest white.

The light shall not fade on England now,
The fields be forever green,
The Character, charm that is England now,
In my heart means everything.

The rising sun on the sleepy hills,
The twinkle of morning dew,
The running stream to the river's flow,
And on to the sea of blue.

The light shade shall not fade within my eyes,
Nor stifle my mind within,
My ears will not want whilst still the sound
Of the song that the blackbird sings.

The light shall not fade on Castle Walls,
Nor the heroic deeds of man,
The bells will forever ring so clear,
In the churches of our land.

The light shall not fade whilst vigil be,
The eye of Heaven bright,
For our cause be true and our loyalty be,
In trust with our red crossed knight.

The Knight shall not fade on England now,
The fields be forever green,
The character, charm that is England now,
In my heart means everything.

I always acquaint England, with the glorious sound of Church Bells ringing out, why? I don't know it just does, & me a non believer too !

Nice poem!

Para 3 line two; ..."morning dew"

Man is only ever one step away from being a perv...:dk:

We take the local newspaper - East Anglian Daily Times - not a single mention in there today (I stand to be corrected) of St Georges Day.
The other UK saints days usually get a mention, especially St Patricks Day.
What's wrong with this nation?

Apathy, I was going to be apathetic but I couldn't be bothered :D

In a very quiet reserved and English way. I had a very good St Geroges Day.
No big brewery tried to lead a week of celebrations to mark my England's Special Day.
No special instruments of torture squeezed by an elbow filled the air with wailing.
No Red Dragons were seen.
The flag of my country could be seen in many a garden and not waved by some hooligan yob from the National Front or its alleged gentle chapter the EDL. That was enough for me.

We have had a wonderful St Georges day here. The weather is superb, big yachts are in the harbour, the island is opening up and the season kicks off in 2 weeks.

George is one of the most popular names in Greece and name days are celebrated more than birthdays.

The nice thing this year is that the day falls in the middle of Easter, another major celebration here.

I am not English but even I know that in England, St. Georges day celebrations this year will be on May 2 :bannana:
