Hi,

I'm tempted to get my car supercharged. Interested in the stage 1 Weistec package. Anyone who has had this done and where, is their any kind of warranty against it going bad, and the other thing is insurance, how much did it add? I currently have the ECU tune and the insurance let me have it for £0 when renewing as said i would leave them :)

I don't want stage 2 for the time being due to loosing low end driveability and the noise from having the exhaust de-restricted (keep the neighbours from whinging). The cars alreadt fast as $*&# but stage one i quite fancy the added torque/acceleration. Also if i had stage 1, adding an ice tank, assume could be done afterward, would that increase HP/TQ or does the new ECU from weistec limit this as a benefit.

Thanks

I've been wanting to go "That Little bit Extra" too, so interested in this thread.

Call Acid at Msl if he cant advise on your best option then nobody can as he has done it and seen it all with Amgs

Where do you guys use all this supercharged power? Thinking of buying a CLS/E55K myself!

Yeah my cars my daily throughout the year. Running in C mode with the charger is it still reasonably docile when keeping off the throttle and usable in the wet? Lee I read your review, and it said 1/2 gears where not that usable so was wondering as the car takes off in 2nd when in comfort, or you meant planting the foot. Are you using standard insurance or did you need to switch to the specialist insurers?

Stage 1 isn't anything mayor in terms of control etc can't remember extract figures but you'll find no issues with the extra power.. Chances are you'll just want to goto stage 2.after a short while.

I meant in Sport mode that 1st and second are pretty useless.
I use Adrian flux for the insurance and it only put it up about 150 pounds if i remember correctly

Being brutally honest i think the car sounded and drove better when it was stage 1....exhaust was a bit louder but still the original AMG sound. And the sound from the Supercharger sounded really nice at stage 1. Power is so smooth in delivery.

When i went to Stage 2 yeah it was quite a bit quicker....but only once you got traction so probably 70+mph lol.
You don't hear the supercharger whine as much from inside, and unless you have a valved IPE exhaust it sounds ridiculously loud (as in embarrassing....that's just my personal opinion as i know some people love the NASCAR sound) due to having to fit the long tube headers.

You don't need an Ice tank or any additional IAT cooling with stage 1 either.

Just curious, was the weistec oil/air seperator system you have necessary with the S/C or just precautionary.

More a precautionary measure at first, but it amazes me how much sludge it catches which would have obviously gone back into the intake.....worthwhile in my opinion.

Agreed on the noise being louder.

I got Imran to put two more silencers in. Much better!

Out of interest, if you already have headers, is Stage 2 virtually the same as Stage 1? I like the idea of Stage 1, but I don't want the ice tank and all the other gubbins that you'd have to fit for Stage 3 for example.

I'll be honest now, and say that I don't really understand what the ice tank does for a street car. I've only ever seen them used on drag cars which are operating at 100% most of the time. I'm not sure why you'd need one on a street car, and do you constantly need to stop at the supermarket to buy more ice? :D.

Stage 2 is just a pulley change....however IAT can get fairly high....the ice tank basically gives you a bigger volume of water and acts a bit like a heat sink. I only ever add ice for Dyno runs. And to be fair with the killer chiller installed the water is always cool anyway....same with the water meth just drops IAT a bit more.
