I have now retrofitted a Comand NTG 2.5 in place of an Audio 20. The independent that turned the steering wheel buttons on for the Ipod kit, doesn't appear to know the Star procedure for putting the Nav onto the cluster. He is more mechanic than ICE installer, but is local to my work.

1) Does anybody know the correct procedure?

2) Along the same lines, when I change the clock on Comand, the cluster clock doesn't change, is this another coding situation?

I don't know which version of Star he has, but could probably find out if it's relevant.

By the way, the car is a 2007 W211.

Thanks in advance.

Also, I have read on one of the other forums that the use of the hidden tray is possible by software, I think pcman_jh posted it, something to do with telling Star that the car is the same age as the Comand unit, anybody got any thoughts on this one as well?

Unless the STAR is a very early version you will need to find someone with STAR developer kit and a knowledge of using it (in German) or get the car SCN coded at a good independent or a main dealer.

Enabling the cluster is easy if you know how. The instrument cluster needs also to be coded to synchronise the time with the headunit. Again easy enough in STAR (developer mode).

I am not aware of any coding that will make the lower drawer work once NTG 2.5 is installed. Richard and I have looked at this a number of times and we couldnt see anything that did this.

Alfie see quote below from pcman_jh:-

"Note that someone told me ( after I'd done the mod!) that if you get someone who knows how to fool STaR into believing it's the right model of car then the functionality can be maintained - something to do with telling STAR the age of the Comand rather than the age of the car ie my car is a 2004 E220 but my Comand is about 2008 so tell the Star it's a 2008 model car (something to do with Comand NTG 2.5 not being an option in 2004...)"

Do you think this is a possibly?

Engineer 1,
Which indie did you use?

I'm in Wigan and am just doing a NTG2.5 retro fit into my Vito and need it coding also.

Need to find an indie that can do this reasonably local if poss. I know that there are people on here such as Alfie who know their stuff but I don't fancy driving down to London!

Hi davybull,

I went to Benza Autos in Birkenhead, as I said earlier, they are more mechanics than ICE specialists, I haven't used them for servicing yet, but my wife's C class is due soon, so I will report back when it is done. I know there are other indies about, but can't recommend any personally though.

Maybe worth starting a thread asking if anybody has experience of indies in the area, there are a few about MB Tech Warrington and I think around Oldham as well.

Let us know what your experiences are like.
