Hi,

I see many threads about the SRS Warning light on this forum. I seems there could be several root causes. I have a report from my local garage. I was hoping someone out there could decipher these codes. My garage is not a Mercedes specialist, so I'll need to give them a steer.

P2314 One or more messages from the control unit N73 (EIS control module) are not available on the CAN bus
P2404 The stop lamp switch signal sent from the traction system via the CAN bus is implausible
P1817 back light component short circuit to positive
P2045 Misfiring of cylinder 4 see currently valid STIP P0304
P2043 Misfiring see currently valid STIP P0300
027 Front Passenger seat occupied child seat B48
B1108 Interior-CAN-BUS: CAN-Bus off

All input much appreciated,

-- Dan :)

I also have P2043, yet to find out what it means. I can reset it but it just keeps coming back.
No warning lights, SRS or anything and the car seems to run fine. W203 C220

Cheers

ignore what i posted, as it was already in danos post.

Isn't the child seat sensor the only one related to SRS issues? Not that others should not be fixed but I thought fixing this would help the owner to get rid of the SRS warning light. Engine misfire cannot make the SRS light appear.

The only one related to SRS is the child seat sensor... A horrible job to do.

Hi, thanks for the feedback so far. Do you know if this will stop the air deploying in a crash situation? I can live with the light if I know safety is not compromised

The bags and tensioners will not be activated in a crash is the light is on

Could it be a faulty connection on the plug at the back of the centre console? I kno i removed to shift the panel when installing my kenwood stereo and it triggered the warning but i just had to plug it back in and leave the car for a few minutes so that the warning cleared from the system.

Hi,
The airbag system is not necessarily disabled with the warning light illuminated, the light is there to tell you there is a fault in the system, and it may not deploy in the event of an accident.
The most common cause for a fault as previously mentioned is the passenger seat occupancy sensor, or indeed the plug to it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've now got my car booked in for next week. I mentioned this could be a wiring issue and the mechanic asked "do you know what pins to test?"

They have a diagnostic machine, but I think he'll need some more guidance.

My interpretation is he wants to know the location of the "A end" and "B end" for the wires concerned. He can then test for a good circuit. Does anyone know?

Apologies if I am being unclear. The subject is unclear to me too!

if he doesnt know, should he be messing with the airbag circuit?, take it to someone who does know else it could be costly!

Especially as testing continuity is usually done by applying a voltage to the wires.

If they are only working on the seat occupancy sensor, then it should be relatively safe. If they have a proper Star diagnosis tool, the tool already reports short circuits and open circuit on sensor and actuators/squibs etc.

If you wanted to know more about the seat sensor, you would need the wiring diagram from WIS, which again should be included in the Star machine applications. Someone could print it for you for advance studying.

Your mechanic is a dude. He doesn't know what he is doing except to milk your money. He is asking you to do the job yourself and still get paid.

I phoned Mercedes Manchester central this morning. £105+VAT for the part. Two and a half hours labour @ £124+VAT per hour to supply and fit.

On that basis I am willing to give my local non-specialist indie a whirl!

Also rather annoyingly they would not give me a part number, that is against company policy.
