I have a 2006 220 CDI sport.
I am awaiting shoulder surgery and find in town the Steering is very heavy for my weak shoulder.
I understand the Sport will have heavier steering.
my question is how is this achieved?
I suspect it’s in the valves in the rack but can anyone tell me for certain Where and if it can easily altered.
Thanks

Heavy steering is something us sport owners have to live with. Keeping tyre pressures up to spec is about all you can do as there no adjustments that I know of that can made to the rack.

Wider ,lower profile tyres if fitted to a "Sport" will cause heavier steering, possibly a higher ratio steering rack fitted although unlikely.

Have you had the steering alignment checked and adjusted along with possibly raising the tyre pressures to see if that helps? Start with the low cost / free things first.

Yes everything has been checked. Normally it wouldn’t bother me but with a bad shoulder it’s quiet difficult.
guess the settings are I built into the rack.
Most modern cars with eletronic steering is easy to adjust on the computer.

How does the PAS pump sound? My C350 is an Elegance trim so not sporty in the least, however it does have the vario steering and its on the way out. Its noisy at idle and the assistance is very inconsistent, sometimes smooth and easy, other times a bit wooden. Its on my list when I can get home the end of this month so I will let let you know if it makes a difference.

Hopefully once you have had the surgery and recovered you will find it easier.

Of course during your recovery phase you will not be able to drive at all but hopefully your post operative Physiotherapy will help re-build strength.

Normally a pump will show its weakness at low engine speeds. It’s quiet.
feeling it’s the settings. Guess there is a torsion bar in the rack.
I won’t be changing that .

thanks all
