Tonight on my way home I noticed some excessive play in my steering. I have just fitted new trackrods and had them aligned. Is there a way to take up the slack from the box or do I need to get a new one. By the way its from a W124 200T 1988. The tracking prior to the new rods was that far out it was a joke. I couldnt get any adjustment out of them, hense the new rods. If anyone could throw some light on this I would welcome any advice given. Thanks.

The steering box can be adjusted using the adjusting bolt and locknut. You wind the bolt out to tighten the steering box. Make sure you do this with the wheels off the ground and keep a close check on the tightness especially when on the turn as the gears will be most worn at straight ahead.

Many Thanx Dieselman, Gonna go and try it now. Didnt really want to go down the lines of haveing to do a box swap.
