Had steering clunking for a while now but slowly getting worse and is now annoying ! There are posts on here regarding same issue. Only happens at slower speeds ?? I think it’s to do with the knuckle between the steering rack and steering arm up to the wheel ?? Any ideas please ?

If it is clunking it's worn and possibly dangerous, if it drops off you have no steering. Get it fixed ASAP

The typical common issue is faint cluncking at full lock at parking speeds. If you have cluncking while driving, or when not in full lock, then you have a different issue, and as TTM said above, it needs checking urgently.

Sorry should have said in the above it’s at parking speed and lock to lock ! Is it the knuckle joint ?

It could be either of the following:

- Hydrobushes
- Drop links
- Top strut rubber bushes
- Top strut bearing

Mine was cured by replacing the 3 first ones - the bearings were fine on inspection so didn't need replacing.

I’ve replaced every front arm/ component apart from the n/s drop link so I will replace that ASAP and see what happens. I’ve got an aftermarket air ride kit fitted last year so all those parts should be fine..... 👍

Did you replace the top struts rubber bushes and bearings?

No as I’m sure new ones came with the front air struts........ so, another job to have a look at the week end 👍

The rubber bush and bearing are located between the top strut and the chassis, so it's not a given that a new strut will come with a new bush and bearing.

But if it did, and the rubber bush and bearing are new, then you can obviously rule them out.

Jogging my memory, no I didn’t get bearings/ bushes so will be looking at them at the week end 👍

Only just had the chance to investigate the steering clunking and it’s actually the rack itself. I can just wriggle the steering under the car enough to hear and feel the whole length of the rack.....
