We were driving our ML270 CDi back from Britsol and after about 4 hours, the steering wheel light came on on the dash, and has been on since.

we have checked the power steering fluid and it's full but when the wheel is on full lock, it makes a clunking sound.

anyone know of any common steering issues on a 2002 ML?

thanks for any info!

Hello

What light is lit up?

Have you tried as daft as it sees turning the wheel full lock left and full lock right.

Is the light still on now?

I'm guessing to be safe a quick trip to local indy or mercedes and have the code read. It could be something or nothing.

I think from memory mine had the BAS or ESR light on and I looked in the hand book and it told me to lock the wheel each way...sure enough the light went out...Odd but :)

Yours maybe a completely different problem so thats why its worth getting the codes read if it stays on.

doesnt that light just mean you havent done up the adjustable steering column? or has it been ages since I had an ML in?!

the light is a little picture of a steering wheel, on the bottom right hand side of the dash, i'll have a look and try the lock to lock thing, see if it works!

cheers guys!

Well, i feel like a right plonker now! jsut checked it and it was the steering wheel height adjuster lever wasn't all the way up...:wallbash:

this is what happens when your mum tells you the car is broken and you take her word! good thing we didn't take it to the garage, would have been a right joke!

thanks again... i'll stop asking stupid questions now!

Great news

At least I know that also now, athough once set it stays there :)
