Hey all

looking for a good quality physical/visual deterrent in the form of a steering lock. The stoplock pro elite doesn’t seem to be compatible with the w205 c63 steering wheel based on a few sites that tell you if products are compatible, Amazon for example seems to suggest the same.

So, was wondering if anyone out there has recommendations for locks that would compatible and offer some reasonable level of physical security too. Ideally not too heavy and bulky for daily use.

Thanks in advance.

Ali

I think the challenge here is the flat bottom steering wheel.

If you buy secondhand make sure you get all the keys and make sure it's the newer type lock - not a round shaped key.
My mate gave me his old Disklok for free; following a professional car theft, he had a bollard installed on his drive.

What's the issue with the round shaped key and is that what I have?

That's the new shape key. The old shape key is literally tubular, and the lock has a circular keyhole. It's very easily overcome whereas the new style lock isn't, and in tests the new style Disklok took around 4 minutes to remove with a very noisy angle grinder :)

The old key and lock were similar to this:

Anything with those tubular keys might as well be unlocked. I lost one of those keys a few years back and bought a simple tool online that could undo any of them in seconds!! Cost me a tenner second hand! It did get me interested in picking normal locks though....so I bought a cheap set of picks....always a good party trick....I'm a dab hand a Yale type locks!!!

Wasted a tenner there. The plastic part of a biro can be forced into it with a sharp whack and that will unlock it.

Not sure how.....all the little brass bits need to be the right height for it to open....unless its a real cheap lock!!

Slightly off-topic, but If our recent local spate of catalytic converter thefts is anything to go by, the noise of a grinder doesn't seem to put off the light-fingered fraternity, even at 2:30 in the morning.
I guess they work on the basis that no-one is going to risk a face full of battery acid by challenging them......

Mate of mine had his cat stolen from his car from a locked garage when on holiday in broad day light!!! Neighbours thought it was the gas board working in there as the gas board really were replacing mains in the street and the meters are in the garages.

🙀😹
