There was a thread on here where someone sent away a steering wheel for re leathering and it came back like new...

I thought I had bookmarked the website but cannot find it...

Anyone find this thread?

The only one I can remember is Dodle had his one done at D.Class

No not that one, it was someone who had it done in half perforated and the company just restored steering wheels.

What car Jay?.... What wheel??.... Just to get the memory jogging..

It was a modern car with one of those chunky steering wheels... maybe a late W203 or something.

Jay. The interior of my 107 was done by Transcal in Livingstone but the steering wheel was sent off to their Bristol dept for re-leathering cos their 'expert' works from there. Any colour, any stitching, you name it...

I seem to recall someone posting up a post of his refurbished steering wheel, and I also remember it looked very good, think it was Royalsteeringwheels, or something along those lines, hope this helps.

Druk, the workmanship does look exceedingly good, i must say.... Maybe the leather on the steering wheel that the hands grip onto could have been done in perforated leather imo, but the colour, stitching all look spot on....

the centre console also looks well executed...

LOL.

They subbed the job out to another company. :D

No prcies on the website. Anybody got a ballpark from them?

I'm getting old, as stuff like that annoys me (along with a blank special offers section!)

Most leather products just need a repaint, rather than a recover. I would think a local SMART repairer would be able to do this, without bother.

Mine was involved in a fire.. its an old AMG wheel so needs to be recovered... my smart repair guy does trimming but he took one look and said it wasnt worth the time...

I had a Polish man buy some parts from me and he reckoned it cost about £30 to have a wheel rim covered in leather, in Poland.

Might be worth a look.

Had my momo recovered by Jacek at Royal Steering Wheels - £110 (ish) - no complaints whatsoever

Purchase a good quality Italian perforated leather steering wheel cover, complete with tough twine of the right diameter from a well known auction site!....

...follow the instructions and proceed to stitch the cover as any professional would do

Cost me 1 hour of my time and £14.50 for the leather cover :thumb:

And £10 of petrol to start your car and leave running while taking the picture!

I have just spent several weeks sorting an upgrade for my steering. I didnt want to get saddled with the issues of trying to get the facelift W204 wheel buttons and lights not working or going for the genuine C63 wheel with the different airbag. I have had the original wheel fully reshaped, thickened and recovered. Having gone through all this I thought there might be a few others who feel that at this price and without the hassel it would be a good value upgrade to the unfortunately dissapointing standard 3 spoke.
