Just finished the repair to the stepper motors on my C200 ( 2003). Usual complaint, clicking started on turning the ignition key and continued for 40 secs + no air coming from passenger foot well.
A big thank you to all members who posted instructions for this horrible job, couldn’t have completed it without those instructions.
A couple of points that may help any members who want to take on this job.
1,quotes ranged from £550- £1100 at the main dealer
2. Parts OEM linkage kit bought from main dealer (£48).
3 . stepper motors from main dealer quoted at £148:each. So bought 2 from Ebay at a cost of £15 ea
4. Follow the instructions on the website and store all screws etc in plastic takeaway boxes labelled with location
5. It’s possible to remove the 2 stepper motors without removing the radio cage but for ease I removed this item. It’s difficult due to two lugs that hold the item onto the metal bar. Using 2 flat blade screwdrivers and working on alternate sides I eventually prised it out. ( Replacing was to difficult so I snapped the lugs off with long nosed pliers . ( it’s held in with screws on replacement)
6. Foot brake cable was difficult but you have to perserve
Eventually the problem was in the internal cogs on one of the stepper motors - see photos- so I now have an OEM unused linkage / actuator kit and a stepper motor. These are free to anyone wanting them. Just provide postage
Good luck if you start this job
