I think this has been put in a thread before, but I cant find it
In the morning when cold, the rev counter needle stays on zero
After 5mins of driving I tap the side of the dash and then it reads ok all day long until the next morning.
Is there a cure for this without stripping it down or replacing

Many Thanks

Hi,
This is caused by the needle stops (speedo as well) becoming "sticky", the only solution is to remove the cluster and stripping, and cleaning the needle stops,

I got a length of copper wire, approx 1mm dia, borrowed a roll of cotton from wifey, wrapped the cotton around wire to give it a rough edge (all the way it case it slipped off and I could pull it out)
Started engine so the rev counter worked (after a wack ;-)) Gently ease the copper wire thru the gap of the clock adjuster and front (first giving it a dip in meths so it evaporated -meths cost pennies at B&Q) Eventually I learnt the knack of wiping the stop to clean it.
It took a couple of goes but at the moment the neeedle has stopped sticking.

Think I have answered my question (due to being lazy :) )

"meths cost pennies at B&Q" It's the red wine to go with it that costs...

Merlot or the Shraz grape ?
