Sticking tailgate

Hello, on my S211, I've noticed every now and then the tailgate sticks when opening.

It feels almost like how a regular door has an intermediate position where it sticks. Do you think this could be a gas strut which is becoming stubborn? This appears to be on the left hand side.

I hope you can understand my description of the problem.

I haven't had a chance to look at it this weekend, but I'm sure it's the gas strut as it sticks on opening and not on closing, if it were the hinge it would be doing it all the time.

I purchased two new struts for £25 from a parts dealer in Germany, Google the struts. Tony

But the description suggests this isn't a quick job.

I do need it doing, as when opening the tail gate goes STICK....STICK...STICK...as it sticks on its opening travel, but it's fine when closing.

Replacing the gas struts is a COMPLETE doddle, can be done in five minutes, all you need is a small screwdriver to dislodge the spring clip on the ball and socket end fittings.

Have you done this on an estate E class? It looks like there's lots of dismantling to do before I can even see the struts.

I have done it on my S204 where they are not covered.
