The surfaces of the two rotary knobs on my COMAND have morphed into a rather unpleasant sticky goo. What is it and is there a best way of cleaning them?

It's a common Maserati problem apparently. I've lifted a fix from their forum.

"Methylated Spirits, Sticky Stuff Remover, Cotton Buds, Microfibre and a strong thumbnail and lots of patience. Rub on meths with cotton bud, scrape with nail, rinse and repeat. It gets worse before it gets better but does work and does not remove the lettering. "

When rubber gets sticky with age, I have found that using a paste made from Bicarbonate of Soda and a small brush, restores everything back to normal. Have used this on a variety of rubber coated items, like binoculars, camera grips etc etc.
