Stolen Comand

If you cant follow the link, here is the txt:

Hi All,

My E320CDI has been in the local dealers having a new turbo fitted due to
power loss, I had a call last night to say it was ready however as the M62 was closed and we had friends coming round for dinner I said I would pick it up in the morning. I had a call today to say that there was a problem with my car and that during the night it was broken into and the Comand unit removed. An ML was also broken into and the Comand taken and a few other dealers were hit for Comand units all along the M62 last night. My car was parked in the compound along with all the rest of the dealers stock and was in full view of the CCTV camera.

Thankfully the Comand was the only part taken, my bluetooth cradle and 160G Ipod were not touched so they are obviously stealing to order.

Apart from the hassle of not having my car for a couple of weeks as the Comand unit is on back order, I've lost 2 years worth of locations stored in the Comand unit.

The dealer is being helpful and I'm now in an 09 Class Estate whilst mine is being repaired.

There was a post, about Lithuanians, selling commands on fleabay, with the markings on them, well, As I know the Lithuanians, They buy broken, written off, and flooded cars, fix them and sell them. The ones, that are not fixable, might be for spares/breakage.

They even have tried to make the business in UK as far as I know, of repairing cars (making one from two or even three) and then selling them.

But it's not a surprise someone is stealing the command units from mercs, because they're more then £1000 from officials.

Well, The same thing with the smart-cars, They being stolen very often, and as well, the wheels from them being nicked as well.
But I haven't seen a signs of people finding that.
For example this car was stolen: http://www.smartsrus.com/srus/416_Road_Rage.html
But it has limited edition bodykit and the color is distinctive, but noone saw it again. The same I can say about Smart Brabus wheels. Plenty of them stolen, and none found.

Stealing Comand units seems to go in fits and starts, it seems. There was a rash of it about six months ago, ISTR.

Glad to see that the guy's dealer is taking care of him. Reminds me of reading on another forum, an employee of a Range Rover dealership collected a car from its owner and had it parked at their home overnight, in transit to the dealership for warranty work the next day. Overnight, the car was stolen and unbelievably the dealership refused all responsibility even though it was in the care of one of their employees. They wanted the owner to claim against their own insurance! Eventually the vehicle was recovered by Police and returned to the owner, despite having been ringed... because the thieves hadn't deleted the 'home' location out of the navigation system... :)
