Do you mean the Jag on eBay? If so, I'd be 99.9% happy that it's true. Several reasons:
1) Given the car reg, it wouldn't be too difficult to find out its history.
2) Exactly the same thing happened to a Police car.
3) My Dad was in the Fire Brigade. They like nothing better than to chop roofs off.
4) I used to work in the car industry - I don't see why there would be 'pre-production' 54 reg X-Type. Cars are continually tested, but not to destruction. I also think it's unlikely that Jaguar would allow a 3rd party to dispose of the car. When we did destroy a car during pre-production then it was dismantled on site and every body panel was gas-axed in half.
