Hi, so had the car a few weeks not many miles done normally only drive a few miles each way, the eco start stop WAS working, i just used it a couple of times for fun but switched it off. now on paying more attention i notice it on the dash it is yellow with a line across it. I did about 12 miles yesterday, still the same, i did have a/c on, wipers, lights and radio. I have read all the other threads and i guess it won't work with all that lot on, but i thought after 12 miles it would go green. I just like to have things right, i will turn it off but want to make sure it works. is there any other way of telling if its ok without getting a star put on it? thanks

I remember working at Fiat on sales a few years ago (2002ish) and reading up about the Fiat 500 stop start. It needed something like 40 different things to be right just for it to work. If one item on the list was switched on or off the whole system wouldnt work.

They are funny things. If you only do short journeys it will not turn green at all. I mostly use mine for short journeys and its always yellow. I drove from Horsham, west sussex, and halfway up the m6 toll it went green. It was then mostly green for a fortnight of my normal use before going yellow again. Been like that a month now. Another long run will charge it up again. The culprit is the aux battery, a four capacitor box in the end of the passenger footwell. They take forever to charge up. They seem better when replaced. I think they deteriorate with age, even before they fail and the warning comes up on the dash

I think imho that it is a good thing that it doesnt work for me. I never really need it but dont want any hastle from starter motors etc. They only put the systems on for emmisions so it can help the car can get a lower tax bracket but I feel that its the people who own the cars after about 5 years onwards are the ones that dont benefit from the system and in the long run cost people more money than the little fuel you would save.

Thanks for the answers, i am happy to leave it, but just can't bear to not have thing right, with all this covid who knows when i we will do a long journey. but i am happy i know it will take a long journey to charge it up, thanks for you answers.

It's the first thing I turn off when I get in the car. I don't want the engine stopping and restarting every time I come to a halt.
Mine will only get used in heavy traffic jams

Every time I get in my W205 the Start/Stop comes on but I always switch it off, I haven't had any detrimental experiences with it. I have forgotten a couple of times and it really throws me through a loop when I stop and it switches the engine off, most disconcerting for a split second

Went for a decent run out yesterday and it eventually went green. Turn it off most of the time, pain in the Rse in stop-start traffic.

i know what you mean but just wanted to check nothing was wrong with the new toy. thanks
