Strange goings on at the gearbox

Hi - I'm in Germany at the moment, having got the ferry over last night (very nice crossing - Hull Rotterdam). Have travelled about 450 miles today, with the same to do tomorrow.

I've been driving reasonably quickly, but no more than 100. During a period of gentle driving on back roads the gearbox did some really jerky downchanges - 3 to 2 I think, along with a clunk. Noise seems to have gone now, but I did notice that the gearbox seems to be hanging onto gears longer than normal. It's been very hot here (25 deg) so I do not know if that might affect anything.

Love some views - do I have something to worry about? I don't want to create a drama, but in my student days when something started to go wrong when hot, it was just the start of things to come!

Your G/box oil level is the first thing I would check, before it is too late.

Hi battery going on laptop and I forgot the mains. Car is a 2005 on a 55 so still in warrenty at the mo (plus I have Service Plus)!
