Strange ticking sound...

Any ideas on this would be appreciated since it is very irritating!

Basically, at any speed above about 40mph I get a ticking sound that seems to come from somewhere neer the base of the screen, towards the centre. The speed of the tick is fairly constant at about 3 per second and doesn't seem to vary with road, engine or fan speed.

Slowing down to below about 35mph stops it, but then it starts again above 40mph.

Car is a 2001 S210 E320cdi, about 160k miles if that makes any difference.

You should check yr hand brake cable.i had same problem and that was hand brake cable.

To see if its rev related do the speed to get the tick to start than knock the box into a lower gear, dont the injectors seals blow on the cdi engines?
