Anyone on the forum had their registration doc or car cloned before?

My brother had his plates cloned a few years ago. He had a cherished plate on a Z3 and got back from a business trip to the states to a letter threatening to have his car towed away or scrapped!

Apparently his car was 'abandoned' at the side of the road in South London (he's in North London) wihout any tax etc. The Police weren't that bothered and actually suggested that since he wasn't in the country was he sure that his wife wasn't 'playing away'! He said that his car is right outside their house as he speaks!.

Anyway he went down to the road indicated on the letter to find a Z3 similar to his parked with loads of parking tickets plastered all over it & no tax. He took some pictures & called the police and the local council again and told them what he saw. He also questioned them about how this could happen as the new regulations were in force that require you to show proof of entitlement to the reg before making up number plates. He never heared anything else from them after that!.

This is exactly what I was worried about - only with the plates being sold and not abandoned !

I bet cherished plate is not covered by insurance

How about this as an option

He could be looking to rip people of from Ebay?

post a pic and sell a car...ask for bank transfer then do a runner?
