Prague, Czech Republic, March 28, 2011 - A newly published photo of the ancient Philosophical Library at Strahov Monastery takes the crown as the largest interior photo in the world. The image of Strahov Philosophical Library, at 360cities.net/library, has a total resolution of 40 gigapixels, or 40 billion pixels.

Shot by photographer Jeffrey Martin over a period of five days, the image reveals the highest resolution view of any interior space that has ever been captured. In the image, thousands of priceless, ancient books are visible, in detail down to the worn leather on the spines; the fresco on the ceiling of the library is captured down to the brush strokes and cracks in the plaster. In short, this photo captures the details of room in a way that has never been done before.

Nadir is the point below the camera, you have to take it by hand once you remove the tripod but it means you can have a true image sphere.

I suppose that a) he was looking for greater fidelity than an image sphere would have provided (those I've seen tend to suffer from distortion), and b) the floor is the least interesting part of the room.

I'm one for completeness, seeing the tripod just "irked" me. I suppose I shouldn't complain, it went up for free :)

I've no particular beef with them, although I assume you are referring to wall-to-wall carpeting? (Which I do prefer, but only because I havn't lived in a house with underfloor heating)

No I was referring to the fact that they always have a deliberate mistake built-in.

I never knew that! Now every time I see one I will be looking for the in-joke. I assume they did that for some kind of copy protection/trade marking.

No, I belief is it is done because they believe God is the only one who can create perfection.

I was having a dig at your petty nitpicking of a brilliant panoramic photograph created in such fine detail never before.
