Hello.

I'm currently in Germany in my W124. Edinburgh to Berlin in a 21 year old car. No problems on the way over. Yesterday the heater started blowing hot air only, which is rather unpleasant. Can anyone make any suggestions as to how I can fix this before i get cooked on my Journey home on Saturday? Cheers.

Tim.

Hi

Tap the duo valve with a tool of some description as you put the heater control from hot to cold, it worked for mine till i splashed out and bought a new duo valve.

Hope this helps

also if you have a voltmeter you might want to check that your getting power to the duo valve as it defaults to hot air (valve open) when it loses power.

But as above i have had success before with tapping the duovalve with a ratchet whilst someone flicks the dial from hot to cold

Alternatively pick up some nice sausages and stuff them down the vents.

By about Belgium, stop for some bread and enjoy!

hope you get it sorted!

Yes , you can open it up and clean it out : there are six ( or eight , can't remember ) screws on the top - you can undo these and take out the pistons ( watch for losing small parts as you take the top off , also expect some coolant loss ) this may be sufficient to solve the problem . It may be sufficient to do this without removing the entire unit form the car , although that is not difficult to do either .

The duovalves are fairly expensive new , but there are plenty of W124 models in the breakers if you want to chance a used one .

CAUTION+++

If you take it apart and do not get it back together properly/tightly, it will leak coolant all over the place!
