Hi all, having to replace my sump gasket on my 2014 C Class C220 on looking at all the bolts to come out X2 of them look pretty awkward that's right above the subframe bar has anyone got any tips for these, does/can the subframe be dropped slightly to get a better grip on these? Any help is much appreciated.

Yeah you can drop the subframe down to gain better access, don’t think there’s a gasket in there though, pretty sure it’s just sealer.

Hi thanks bud, yeah it is sealer, I'm getting the car taken to a garage i know, i have a fracture on 1 of my hands so I've admitted defeat, I'm quite gutted about it i love taking on a challenge lol, just gonna pay for it now 😔

I usually use the cross bar at the top of the engine and loosen off engine mount bolts to raise the engine, then there's enough room to get to sump bolts and remove sump

I’ve tried that. It looks like you can but you can’t get it over the pick-up tube. You have to lower the subframe a bit too. Not a lot, but a bit. This is for the plastic OM651 sump. My God, I’ve done a fair few of them!!

Yeah I just do the gasket in situe, just lowering the pan and install new seal. Havent got the time to mess around with subframes 🤣

I’m usually replacing the plastic pan because some clown has cracked it by trying to remove the sump plug. It’s astonishing people still try to remove it. I thought everyone sucked these days ;)

Yep overtightened the sump plug usual occurrence, only gotta be 25nm lol

Sorry 4 late reply about this, so it wasn't the sump that was leaking after all, it was the cam chain tensioner bolt that came loose according to the mechanic, so this in my eye's could have rurned out quite bad, i haven't had the cam chain done so quite stumped after a year and 6 months that this has happened, has anyone else came across this?

Yes, I’ve seen a few that have loosened off and leaked. Sometimes they leak really bad when cold, but dry up when they get hot. A new washer and retorque sorts them out. There was a recall for some engines built between 2010 and 2012 for incorrect torquing from the factory. I’ve seen a couple that slipped the recall net. If they back right out you can lose the sump full of oil in a matter of minutes. Engines have been lost
