Hi all,

Got bit of a problem with my suspension here goes, I had a set of H & R springs fitted by an Mercedes expect, they all fitted no problem and the car looks really nice :) apart from the passenger side front with sits 8mm higher then the rest. The only thing the guy could think of was that the spring was a different tension and to get a new one which should solve the problem. So I got in contact with the suppler and he said take off all the springs and I’ll send you a new set, I said you going to pay for that in which he replied no after a bit of an argument he said what do you suggest? I said send me one spring which he did. So I had it fitted but still sits 8mm higher

Anyone got any ideas…………………….

a couple of ideas

bizarre as it may sound - maybe that one's not sitting 8mm higher but the other one is 8mm lower - try replacing the one on the low side :)

has the spring cup been left out when it was all put back together ?

I could replace the other side and see what happens the spring cup was put back in. But the guy goes to change the cup to a lower one which should even it out.

Is it that you weigh 30 stone and are sitting in the drivers seat when the gaps are being measured?

Change the front springs over and see if the car then leans the other way. If so it's the front spring, if not it's a rear one.

Alternatively jack the car up in the middle at the rear and see if it still leans, if so it's the front springs, tehn jack it at the front and see if it leans, if so it's a rear one.

agree with other suggestions but in addition, or if all else fails before you take things apart again do some careful measurements to see where the 8mm is coming or going. ie measure from one place to another regarding spring location - its got to be somewhere. So either the spring is more or less compressed than the other one or there is some other physical difference other than the spring itself.

Was it ok before you changed springs?

Where are you measuring to get the 8mm?

Are you measuring on a flat drive? Try turning the car around

Make sure that the spring is the right way up, check that it is actually sitting in the grove and that the end of the spring is against the stop. Tapered end to the top.

It was never measured before the springs were changed but it looked ok, the measurments are taken from centre of the hub to the bottom of the arch?

A mercedes specialist fitted the springs so they have been done right is nothing to do with the springs he said.

People do make mistakes ......

Has he said 'It's not the springs' over the phone, or actually had a look to make sure ?

The spring was changed twice as i got a new one

well I guess its down to a set of measurement comparisons between both sides to see where the 8mm is made up
