Supercharger not kicking in???!!!

Hello All,
I wanted to know if anyone who owns a mercedes kompressor has noticed whether sometimes their kompressor (supercharger) doesnt kick in. I have recently kicked down on the accelerator and noticed that it just revs as normal and the car picks up speed as if the kompressor isnt working.

This has happened on a few occasions, but its not consistent and im getting worried :(

Any way any advice comments would be appreciated.

Cheers

DA.

I would get worried.

Mine did that intermittently for a while. Then stopped.

After all investigations, it seemed that nothing was at fault apart from the fact the ECU was not sending th esignal to activate the electromagnetic clutch on the Kompressor.

The Kompressor was fine, the clutch was fine, just the ECU controlling it. When the new ECU was fitted, it then reported the Air Recirculation Flap was faulty. They fitted the new flap and all faults went and Kompressor fine. Thinking it might have been the air recirc all along, they tried the old ECU again, but no luck.

My invoice is in a frame on the wall so easily to hand (so OK just kidding) and the total, after the dealers discount because he took pitty is £1288.41

I sincerely hope you do not have the same issue.

i did have a similar problem on my c class 230k sport, it turned out it was a engine sensor which was faulty only cost £70 for the sensor and bugger all time to fit it, i initially thought it was the supercharger due to the lack of power. but plugging it in down my local specialist proved otherwise

I've heard of this being the air control flap on the air filter box sticking in the normally aspirated mode.

Alas Graham this was whilst making enquiries AFTER your no blow situation. :o

Yes, as I said above I had to have a new air flap as well

I always thought it sounded fishy, but the dealer said it was only when the new ECU was fitted that the air flap fault registered. Apparently they then refitted the old ECU, but this reverted to the Kompressor not activating.

I shall really never know. The car went so well when I got it back compared to how it was before and the W203 C200 Kompressor I had on loan, I didn't care as much as I should have. Even my insurance company decided it was time to kick Graham and were ripping me off £70 a week to insure the W203 as it was worth much more than my car!

I paid for very little labour in the end, only a few hours, considering they had the car over a week. I think if I had said at the end of it, not to fit any parts can I have my car back, I would have got hit with a bill just as big for labour, so I couldn't really win.

I did ask for my old ECU, but the price is for an exchange part, not to buy a new one outright

DarkAngel, you didn't say which Kompressor you have, the SL55, E55, C32, C230 (new or old). On my W203 with the 2.3L motor, it had a loose wire going to the coil pack that they replaced but I noticed a few people had the same problem on the C forum.

With my OBD-2 scanner (don't know if they have those in the U.K.), I noticed that no matter how hard I pressed the pedal at any RPM, load never reached more than about 50-60% (100% is normal under full throtle) and the ECU only closes the bypass valve at above 90% load. So the fault in the coil pack wire was causing load to be calculated incorrectly. That car ran smoothly so no misfires or anything like that but it was slower than my 4-cyl Chevy truck and that's slow.

I would guess that he has a W202 C230K as his avatar shows a W202!?!?

Obviously better if he can confirm!

Cheers,

Will

Good Guess Will, its a W202 C230K, the car realy flies when the supercharger kicks it! I'm hoping the problem isnt going to become a problem, it hardly ever does it, but if it starts happening consistently I'm gona get mighty pissed off!!

Hell I might as well just get a bloody M3, normally aspirated 321 bhp on tap, you cant complain about that! Anything that isnt normally aspirated always causes more problems than needed!

Am getting the car checked by a specialist tomorrow, will let you all know how it goes...fingers crossed...wallets out!!
Thanks for all your inputs.

Follow the air intake piping, on my car (W202) the flap is bolted onto the air cleaner box, but follow the piping and you can find it easily enough.

glad you got it sorted mate
