Supercharging?

Does not really look like airmatic though. This is what the airmatic system looks like:

Thats it!

Do you remember Clarkson using it?

LOL! :D Yes, that was funny. In fact, JC must be furious that some bloody foreigner like me is able to use the system much better than he is  :D.

By the way, what JC really did wrong was trying to spell the phone number in single digits. If you do that, it's quite easy for the system to misinterpret it. If you spell it out in groups of 2, 3 or 4 digits, it will work a charm and only very rarely misses).

Saying "077" -pause- "12" -pause- "34" -pause- "56" etc always works well. But try saying "3" and the bloody thing thinks you've said "delete".

Without going into too much technical detail, there is a nice explanation for this behaviour, it has to do with how grammars are structured in this type of Command-and-control application of ASR.

We'll get told off for going off topic, but if you remember Clarkson featured in two shows using the Mercedes Linguatronic. On one he was in an S-class and lambasted it, then on another program he was in his own SL55 and he really raved about it.

Never let the truth spoil a very entertaining comedy show.

Meanwhile......... I think we can all accept there has been an innocent mistake made regarding airmatic?

Regards
John

Yes, that is the one I had in mind :).

Agreed, although the "innocent" part does not apply to the sales guy who told OP apparently incorrectly that he had airmatic. Even if the sales bloke was genuinely misinformed, it's unacceptable - even if fairly common .

Ohh thats really great to know...

I have sent an email to the guy as i know him quite well and i'm just waiting for a reply he should be able to clear things up for me:)

Thanks everyone for your help :)

The front and the rear ride height (assuming its standard) will not be the same when at standstill.

The front springs may have been replaced with the incorrect type at some point (common problem of snapping)

How do you know it levels out?

There is no function of ride height control on your car so it can't level itself out as you say.

Hope this helps

I have found in the past that sales staff at dealerships do not have the technical knowledge of cars that they like to think they have. So I'm not doubting your word that the sales person told you your car has Airmatic.

Most people would actually check before they bought it - who knows what engine might be under the bonnet  :D .

It cant have been replaced with a incorrect type I use to have a Black 2001 C320 before i got the silver one and it had the same suspension set up as my current one

It levels when the car starts to move (automatic air suspension) I was told. I got my brother to see it I could get a video and PM it to you, the front end becomes as low as the rear end when the car moves, i'm sure its got a device that levels it. The car had a full mercedes check all round i think they would have spoted if there was anything wrong with the suspension.

Pics are in the gallery section, hehe :D i have check and most people told me it has auto air suspension thats why i'm abit surprised to the news that i'm getting now... :(

I really hope the guy knows what hes talking about!

Oops, forgot to ask the other obvious question: where is your airmatic button on the dash (note, this is not the same as a button that switches between standard and sports suspension mode) and what does your manual say about airmatic? If there is neither a button nor does the manual mention airmatic, you can be pretty sure you haven't got it.

Its automatic air suspension i'm told i don't have a button i dont think but i havnt read the manual.

I have Pm'd you my VIN number i checked i cant see anything about suspension maybe you know away of finding out?

cheers

Doesn't make any sense, automatic does not mean there is no button (or does your automatic climate control also comes without buttons ;)).

There should be a button to increase the ride height, for example when going over rough terrain.

Also, the manual should explain things like how the increased ride height is automatically cancelled at a certain speed and how at higher speeds the normal ride height is lowered automatically.

I'll have a look at the VIN, but if it does not show up, it won't be there (since it would be an option on the W203 if it would have existed).

Don't get too stressed by it, you still drive a very nice car :).

In the picture it clearly shows a front spring.

The only thing that sets the ride height are the springs. The air suspension is basicly a bag of air that replaces the spring.

Lol, no i'm not getting stressed mate just trying to find out whats on it, just things that dealers always seem to lie about, it's not the 1st time that a mercedes dealer talks rubish so i'm not surprised if you guys are right!

I would put £500,000 that it doesnt have it.

They are telling you porkies mate.

Good to hear that, don't let it spoil your enjoyment of the car ;).

Yes, fact and fiction are often hard to distinguish entities for car sales men :D.

Oh thanks for your help mate :)

as you said it might be self-levelling suspension its different than air-matic ohh well never the less good to know these things as I didn't before so thanks again. :)
