Hi all I have had a slight rattle on cold start and engine management light on for a few months now. Which intermittently turns on and off. I decided today to take it to local mechanic to get it checked out using his diagnostic machine.

Camshaft timing
Error in exhaust camshaft detected

I have been told that the timing chain, balance chain needs to be replaced at a whopping £850+VAT :(

Apparently takes 8 hours to complete and that included supply and fit price.

I've called up mercedes Solihull parts department who advised that it is advised that the tensioner is changed too so got the details for that at the same time.

MB Solihull quoted the below prices for OEM parts

Timing Chain - 0009932176
@ £142.80 inc vat

Balance Chain - 0009932176
@ £126.00 inc vat

Tensioner - 2710500611
@ £79.20 inc vat

Is there anyone in Birmingham / Solihull area who can change my timing chain and the other bits above for a reasonable price?;)

I've just had the arrival of a baby boy so finances are a little tight.

Hope you can help

Thanks
Bhav

Your in Birmingham , I'm sure Acid @ MSL can fix you up. He's an authorised sponsor on here too.

I would have thought that the balance shaft chain would be ok
You may have an issue with the variator (gear for the exhaust camshaft) .

Do you know what the part number might be?

Sorry Bhav I don't have it to hand.
Msl have a good reputation on here, a good idea to get a second opinion from them

We did the same for a slk last week car is now running fine.

+1 for Acid and the MSL guys you will struggle to find a better customer experience like these guys give , outstanding!! Your definitely in safe hands with Acid

Suspect fault with cam adjuster not timing chain, they get stuck, would replace adjuster 1st and tensioner. 12 Mercedes experience

Finally sorted
