Hi. I have a Merc CLK 200, 2003 (53) reg. A few weeks ago, on Cold Start the engine started juddering. Last week the engine started juddering whilst it was hot and then stopped juddering in a few mins. Now my car doesn't start at all. The RAC man wrote the following in his report, but I am aware that RAC people are not specialists, so will take his opinion with a pinch of salt:
1) "No Compression on all 4 cylinders.
2) No Mechanical Noise when starting.
3) Suspected timing chain jumped.
4) Oil in one of the cylinders, other 3 seems fine."
My car is Auto transmission and has done 108,000 miles. I have not noticed any unusual colour smoke out of my exhaust either.

Can any one advise what the problem may be as I am reluctant to book it into Mercedes Dealer or specialist without having done my home work first. I am based in Birmingham.

If you've no compression on any of the cylinders then you'll be needing to take the rocker cover off as a minimum to investigate anyway.

You'll then soon see if you're timing chain has jumped or somehow moved as the timing marks wont align.

Has any cylinder head work been done on the car previously? Thinking woodruff keys here...

Hi. What if it has moved. Whats the impact and possible damage to the engine as well as estimated costs for repair?

Depends if the valves hit the pistons, and if so, what failed. Best case is new timing gear, next add valves, then new engine.

I don't know if that engine is non-interference.

Doesn't sound good at the moment. I was thinking new engine too but further invest needs to be done yet

Good luck!
