hello,
i'v been looking at CL's on autotrader and cant help disliking the wooden portions on the steering wheel....can i change the steering wheel to the later 03 onwards i believe it is? and is it a pretty straight forward swap i.e disconnect battery, unscrew screws at rear of steering wheel by turning 90 degrees and swap or what?

thanks
alex

Hi Alex and welcome to the forum. You could always get dark wood

Hi Alex and welcome to the forum. You could always get dark wood

thanks for the reply,
i'v considered that as it looks better than the lighter wood imo although then i'd really have to change all the wood trim like doors and centre console/dash.
whats it like to change the wood on the steering wheel, or is that a whole steering wheel swap too? (the idea was to get an '02 reg instead of later 03/04 and save money lol) and then just get the right steering wheel :P

thanks
alex

Sorry Alex,my bad. What I mean is to get a wheel with darker wood
This one should do the trick

I like your style !!

Start modding before you've even bought it !! :D

weeeell.... i'd rather ask everything i want to know before i commit to buying a car, like tbh i'd prefere an '02 onwards so it's not the "lump of lead" compared to the heaviest '00> version of 5 speed auto but i quite like the '03> full leather steering wheels, and the 7 speed box is a bit better on mpg and co2 emissions (even though <'06 cars are exempt from co2 based tax)

before i got my volvo s60 i tried one with wooden inserts and it felt grabby on the wooden sections instead of silky and slidey like the full leather ones (so instead of sliding through your hand when releasing the wheel exiting a corner it'd stick to your hand)
p.s does anybody know if mercedes dealers etc can code the steering wheel buttons for the 2000MY cars?

thanks
alex
