Does anyone what happens if the inlet swirl flaps stop working, the car is an slk 320 with the m112 engine, can you check if they are operating correctly, where is the actuator that operates them, all suggestions greatly recieved

yes it has a variable length inlet manifold(vlim),I need to know how to check they are working,my understanding is it has an actuator but i do not know where it is

Its at the front of the inlet manifold under and behind the air pump its a little black jobbie with a lever down to the actual arm that operates the flaps, same as the 113 v8 try a google there are some pics out there with the manifold opened up.

Tried to find pics bit no luck found e bay number 270480216770 has the air pump missing and you can see the aactuator behind the oil cooler to the right of the stat outlet stub.

To remove air pump iirc unplug it, remove 1 poss 2 bolts pop of clamp remove pump itself and all will be revealed not hard didnt take me long.

But you can see it with a torch and no disassembly

i have these on my e 320cdi but they are diconected and flafs are seized tight do i need these then as haveing a new turbo fitted and takeing manifold off to clean and try and fix

Havent a clue John but there was an recent earlier post iirc titled ml270, where one member said you needed the flaps on the diesel and another said he had driven an ml270 with disconnected flaps and it drove just fine with a tad more smoke than usual.

mine npt worked since i had the car and thats over 2 years but getting a new turbo fitted soon and haveing the intercoler cleaned and the manifolds are comeing off to see why the bar has disconected and flaps have sezied seems to run ok without problem with the flaps disconcetd
