If I turn the air-con off, or re-start the car (several hours) after a run with the air-con on, the screen mists up.

I understand that the evaporator is likely to be covered in condensation, but is this behaviour normal. I'm wondering if the evaporator drains are blocked so the condensation isn't draining away properly.

They all do this to some extent, it should clear after a while or if the A/C isn't used

Pop dehumidifier in the car overnight, you'll be surprised at how much water it takes out of the air/ car.

I used to get this quite a bit on my W124 as I work away for months at a time with it sat idle in the garage. Now I use a dehumidifier in the garage at 60% humidity the problem has never re-ocurred.

Dave!

Two days with a dehumidifier inside a W124 works wonders! You won't believe how much water you can get out of one and the seats feel completely different afterwards

Several of my cars have done the same. I find it pays to keep the inside of the windscreen spotlessly clean. A dirty window mists up much faster, and worse.

Hi

My 210 Estate does exactly the same. I open the windows for a while to wean her off it so to speak with short dabs of aircon to keep visibility to safe levels until she is completely off it. Sounds bizarre i know.

thinking about it , when was the last time your changed your pollen filter?

I don't have this problem, but I have fitted Climair wind deflectors to both front and rear window on my car. I have done this to other cars I have owned and it keeps the air flowing through the car without any draughts, or whistling from an open window. I find that air from heater systems often makes me drowsy, but this real fresh air. One can also drive in the rain with a window slightly open and not get wet - the windows never mist up either. It also means that one is not using the air con and wasting fuel.

My W211 does this. I thought the ventilation system was a bit crap for such an expensive car until I realised what was causing it.

As an aside, why turn the air-con off? From what I have read, the effects of modern air-con are negligible on mileage and it should be run regularly for the refrigerant to keep the seals lubricated.

Hi, i don't have a dehumidifier but do have 5 greyhounds that get damp in the park.
My E280 has factory air con - would leaving the car running with the top button pressed have the same effect as the dehumidifier that Nick Froome recommends?
Thanks Toby
