2x E350 CDI Sport W212s... for a bit
Hi

My 59 plate w212 doesn’t have the option to switch the beam in the system settings menu in the speedo cluster like my dad’s 60 plate w212 does.

I heard that you have to do it via star, which seems silly.

Is it possible to enable this somehow, anyone know? I’ll be travelling to Europe a bit more, soon.

Cheers!

Ed

Actually I have an iCarSoft MB 2.0… I wonder if it can be done with that! But of a faff but as long as it would be doable I’d be happy. Anyone have any idea? I’ll try to give it a go myself at some point too!

You don't say which type of headlamps the car has.

If the car has Halogens, then I don't think it's possible at all to change from LHD traffic to RHD traffic without replacing the headlamps.

If the car has Xenon/HID then possibly it can be done by STAR - I don't know.... but even so I doubt that iCarsoft will be able to do this - iCarsoft doesn't do coding.

They’re xenons, yes. I haven’t seen any/many 212s with halogen so didn’t know they existed.

Having to take the car to Mercedes to hook it up to a STAR machine to switch them over every time you want to go on holiday seems ridiculous.

Does anybody know of someone that can code the car so that the option comes up on my cluster, like on my dad’s 6 month older car?

Well, the usual specialists will know if it's possible... Comand UK (on your way from London to Cardiff?).

I recall on a BMW I had that you pushed a lever on each headlight and it changed the focus appropriately. Don’t know if your car has this but worth a read of the manual?

Yeah, there’s no lever. From some Googling, it looks like early W212 (pre-December 2009) W212 have to have it done via star. Unfortunately my car was a Nov 2009 build…

It's 618 Bi-Xenon headlamps for left hand traffic on your build sheet if you have it(the levers), you never know you might have them given it's an early example of a W212.

Mine says:

621HEADLAMP WITH ILS, LEFT-HAND TRAFFIC

My dad's says the exact same thing. We both have E350 Sport saloons with Xenons and essentially the same spec, except his is a 60 plate 265bhp engine with 7G+ box however, whereas mine is a 231bhp with the 7G.

I've looked if there's a physical switch on mine, but it's hard to see much.

According to the WIS doc ah8210p000101a it must be done with STAR

Model 207 and model 212 with bi-xenon headlamps up to 30.11.09 (YoMJ09/2)
The headlamps are adjusted using STAR DIAGNOSIS.

Thanks for confirming. The lights also can’t use the stickers from what I’ve read, due to the split light design.

So, back to the original question, does anyone know of a coding place that can sort this, or is good at coding MBs that I could enquire with?

COMAND are generally out of my price range so I rarely bother to contact them I’m afraid.

Going to MB to get the lights changed over via STAR for a two day trip to Germany next week seems a bit insane. As does not providing a way to switch over the lights…

Have you approached your local dealership, as some may do this FOC. My dealer offered this for my C class, although mine had the levers.

Some pics of my left headlight, on the far left beam side (rather than the inner side light).

Any clues from anyone who has done this before? Where would the lever be?

There’s barely any room to move.

Pretty sure the lever is for older generation Xenons such as 203,209,211… :/

Just realised that the guy in the thread above has a 211, yeah.

This is stupid.

Just for the records, the lever if present is inside the light unit. One has to remove the big cover on the rear as if to replace the lamp. The lever is usually towards the wing side (the outside edge of the car) of the lamp holder. It's just a small, thin fold of metal...

Just bumping this thread as I changed the bulbs today and had access to the lamp unit. Here are some pictures.

I don’t see anything obvious and I’m pretty sure it’s a software thing, but posting for the small chance that someone has switched over their lamps on a 2009 W212.

Cheers!

Ed
