hi there,

I've a 2004 CLK with the APS system fitted. Having now got TomTom I wish to remove the APS unit and replace it with the standard head unit that came with the car, thus allowing me to sell the APS head unit.

My friendly dealer has just quoted £100 to do the swop!

I'm hoping I can do it myself, is it a "simple" case of sliding the head unit out, unplugging and resliding the origional back in?

The dealer was harping on about having to remove trim etc.

I'm guessing I'd need some keys to remove the old head unit if it is that simple, any idea where I can get some from?

regards,

Greg

Its not as easy as keys , you need to take most of the cenre console out of the car as the Torx screws are hidden behind it.

Fine to do it yourself if you feel brave

Dont pay for the dealer its easy to change over the head unit, I have taken out my centre many times in factits coming out tomorrow so i can fit my bluetooth car kit and hardwiring my RoadAngle

When i do mine i cover the ash tray in masking tape (so i dont damage it) and then open it look between the gap and theirs a torx 20 screws one either side in the corners remove both of them and then your laughing the trim will lift forward, then unplug the wires making a note were they are connected. and then you have access to the radio agian their are some torx screws to remove aroung the radio surround etc but ur get the idea as you go.

Where about do u live im in surrey area if i can be of any help

Thanks

Neil

p.s do give it a try its at your own risk though, if i can be of any further help do let me know

why not just remove the ash tray ?
