As part of sorting out the remote central locking on my '94 R129, I needed to know how to synchronise the infra-red key fob to the car. I found four different options (and if anyone has any more, please add them):

Method One: (THIS WORKED ON MINE)
Point the transmitter at any door/boot lock with the external LED unit and press the button.
Put the key in the ignition lock and turn it to position 2 within 30 seconds.

Method Two:
Point the remote at the lock at a distance of about 12 inches. Press button for 5 seconds.
Unlock the door by turning the key in the lock. Wait 10 seconds then remove the key.
Point the remote at the lock at a distance of about 12 inches. Press button for 5 seconds.
Lock the door with the key. Wait 10 seconds and remove the key.

Method Three:
Aim transmitter at drivers door LED unit. Press button for 5 seconds. Unlock passenger door with flip-out key.

Method Four:
Lock passenger door manually with key. Go back to driver’s door, point fob at driver’s door sensor, press for 5secs. Unlock passenger door manually.

I hope this helps others. Mods, you might like to consider making it a sticky.
