i know. it's dumb, but i just wasn;'t paying attention and did the annual oil change and filter - only to find that i had chucked in almost 6 litres of fully synthetic 20/50.
Is this automatically a bad thing and should i drain it right away? I mean, is there an danger of damage on an old (but good) engine?
thanks for advice

Anecdotally, using a high-spec oil MAY loosen crud that a less aggressive detergent package left undisturbed, and also anecdotally, the higher lubricity of the oil may lead to the odd gasket seep/weep. Unless you were in the habit of using the cheapest available basic mineral 20w/50, I'm with Dieselman 100%.

It will be fine.

My only concern is the 6l part. The m103 takes 5l.

well spotted stwat, yes actually it was 5 litres.

but did i also mention that it seems to have quitened the rattly timing chain?

thanks, Dieselman
