Not sure if this goes in Electronics, engine or interior... so let me try here.

I have just received my latest gadget for my W202, and on reading the instrutions, I decided that MAYBE I had no clue what they were referring too. So here goes:

<connect all other wires>
Connect the green wire to the vehicle's tachometer signal source. <disclaimers>

Now, the gadget gets mounted on the right pillar, the one in front and to the right of the driver. I noticed there are wires in the pillar, so Im guessing that I can find a positive there (that is live only when the engine is on, like an ignition switch circuit... this is temporary until I have time to copy Iyse's buttons in the ash-tray). My main problem is figuring out what wire the "vehicle tachometer signal source" is. That and the number of cylinders the car has (W202 C180 pre-facelift). Im guessing 6, but I may be totally off.

THanks,
Michele

Not quite sure exactly what you are trying to do, but the C180 only ever had 4 cylinders.

OK, so 4 cylinders. As I said, I have very little knowledge of the cars engine. What I'm trying to do is to fit a digital tachimeter that hooks into my laptop. That way I can plot speed to rev graphs and fiddle a bit with them :)
