Tailgate damper replacement

W124 230TE tailgate won't stay up.... is it easy to fit new 'dampers'?
I believe the dampers (if thats the right term) are £30 each...

When I removed the dampers on my W124 cabrio to have them re-gassed it was simply a case of carefully prising back (but not removing) the spring clip on the end of the damper, levering it off its mounting and then moving on to the next one.

They're kinda hidden in the roof on estates, instructions are here Mercedes Benz Model 124 - M104 Maintenance Manuals 72-360 for the gas struts themselves which'll also refer you to 68-447 to remove trim for access

Thanks... sounds like a garage job to me... looks like you need a bit of a 'gizmo' to sort it out... or it could be the broom handle approach to hold it up!
