Tailgate Lock ML430

Hi all
the tailgate lock on my 2000 ML 430 has just given up the ghost
How do you remove the cover trim to Inspect the lock and associated
wiring and are there any things to whatch out for!

The trim is on poppers. Is the rest of the rcl working?

Hi Wayne yes all doors lock unlock, Driver door one click ,all on two click of fob

Disconnect the catch mechanism at the lowest part of the tailgate then report back if the locking works.
The auto release via the rcl on the key will not work once you have done this so don't worry!
When I say disconnect I just mean pull the plug off

Hi Wayne Yes disconnected te connector from lock now locks with central locking
also on short time delay auto locks . So would assume this switch is goos'd ?
What are the options please!?
