I was on the M4 today and saw a few moves that made me cringe....so I thought wonder what the others think is the worse on a motorway...for me it is tailgating -- it scares the sh*t out of me..

I voted other because lane hogging and tailgating "p" me off :( :(

I voted weaving in and out as it has a domino effect on the traffic causing drivers to slam their brakes on ( and potentially cause an accident ) and cause the traffic further back to actually come to a halt.

With tailgaters I'll either blip my brakes or put my foot down and then slow down to the speed limit. I find they hang back afterwards.

Not much you can do with lane hoggers. Are such drivers generally old men ?

I find the best way to deal with tail gaters is NOT to blip the brakes but to increase the distance between me and the car in front....then as I wont need to brake hard I cant get hit ...hmmmm well not yet..

The worst tailgater is that which closes up on you, say lane 1, and then doesn't overtake - just sits at your butt for mile after mile.

I must confess, if a trifle bored I have been known to ease off the throttle ever slower, until they realise they have lost circa 50% of my original speed, and they then decide to overtake, with much glaring at me.... :D

I vote lanehogging, it's what causes tailgating.

I came across a woman middle lane hogging the other day at a nice cool 60mph. There wasn't another vehicle in sight and she was never going to catch anything, but caused me and others catching her to move from the n/s lane to the outside and didn't move over all the time she was in my rear vision.

Why did she do that..???  .

Lane hogging,
It surely must be the major cause of road rage on our motorways and might be the root cause of both tail-gating and undertaking\weaving.

The secret with tail gaters is to totally ignore them, they only do this reckless act to intimidate the person in front?

John

To annoy you? :D

Well, it worked..!!

Just to prove a point I cut it really fine when changing lanes....:D :D

But I don't think she noticed I was there...at any time..even when I was in front..

Agree with every point.

I usually just pull over into to the inside lane as soon as it's available or slow down like Robert to encourage them to overtake.

I was at a meeting and this guy told me he got pulled over and written a ticket for staying in the middle lane at 60 when the carriageway was empty.... said driving with out due care and attention....3 points...no camera can do that...but is he right??

why is it the old bangers that are driven by lunatics?? If they had to stop you can guarantee the shocks are gone so will bounce into you..
