Voted Lanehogging as it can be pretty frustrating.

I believe that it is because of Lane hoggers that in frustration some drivers think that the only way to maintain speed is to tailgate.

Lets face it if there was no lane hogging there would be no need to tailgate!

Steve

PS I do not like tailgaters either

I voted as per Pammy; Lane hogging and tailgates.

I was going to work at 7:30am this morning along the 'new' A13, which is pretty much a motorway. I lost count of how mny cars I saw in the middle lane...for no reason at all, never overtaking...nothing...!!! I wish at time I had a shotgun...people who lane hog should be shot.

There are only really 2 types of motorist,

Lane hoggers

And those who hate lane hoggers.

If people were taught to use lanes properly then a third of all the congestion on motorways would clear up instantly

I've considered 'worse' to be primarily 'most dangerous'

Voted Tailgating - as it's by far the most dangerous of those listed.

Weaving is dangerous, I just think tailgating is more so.

Lanehogging is stupidity personified and definitely encourages other bad behaviour, but in itself is not dangerous.

All the above annoy me, and yes I've imagined having missiles fitted to the car a la 007 (front and rear facing, of course)

I voted other because lane hogging and tailgating "p" me off :( :(

I agree. Also the drivers who indicate and move out without checking there mirror, they seem to believe that as they have indicated they have a right to change lanes. And even if they check there mirrors they can't judge the speed of the vehicle that is behind them.

Lane hogging morons annoy me. Its unbelievable that in this day and age driving on motorways is not part of the driving test.

Educating people to keep in the left lanes unless overtaking would at a stroke ease congestion, reduce road rage, and improve journey times.

Unfortunately enforcing it would require real policemen and not just a camera on a pole so I feel the chances of actually seeing this are very low.

Not everyone lives near near a motorway (nearest is 52 miles from me, nearest dual carriageway 18 miles), so including motorway driving in the test would be tricky.

Made my kids do the Pass+ test, which does motorways and a broad cross section of roads. Waste of time for one of them, who discovered the hard way that overconfidence doesn't overcome the laws of physics when it come to going round a 20mph corner at 30:eek:

Yes live and learn.

Hi,

Driving, especially on m/ways, is all about spatial awareness i.e. what's in front/behind/at the sides etc. etc.

Both tail gaters and lane hoggers lack this facility because they only (need to) see what is in front of them

However tail gaters are aggressively bad drivers which means they get my vote.

Cheers,

Tailgating is dangerous because there is no control and no margin for error. All the other possible dangerous actions can be done with control. There is almost nothing you can do about tailgating.

I find the best way to deal with tail gaters is NOT to blip the brakes but to increase the distance between me and the car in front....then as I wont need to brake hard I cant get hit ...hmmmm well not yet..

Do the same or, at least I try to.

Had a cracker yesterday. Leaving Knaresborough town centre on the High Street, behind an old guy (with flat cap) in old Fiesta towards the right hand side of the road indicating left. Heavy traffic comiing into town. There is a left turn, methinks - "cripes mate - you're taking that wide, and sooooooooooooo slow". So slow he came to a stop. I gave him a wee pip on the horn and guess what he did - he turned right   That's a clear example of why I don't believe what people are indicating until I see the actual manouevre begin.

She stuck out her left hand
When turning right"

Tailgating is nothing more than Intimidation.

I won't be intimidated easily nowdays, but it scares my wife when it happens to her. I either slow down or accelerate, given the space, to escape the idiot.

I remember being tailgated on an empty motorway by 4 lads in a Mondeo. I had a 190E 180 then. They slowed down when I did, they sped up when I did, they weaved when I did. Total Intimidation. I got fed up with them in the end, I slowed to 50mph then floored it to 100+, left them for dead and they didn't catch me again as we got into some traffic.

Totally insane driving, theirs not mine.:p

Lane hogging. Extremely frustrating and guaranteed to cause me stress!!

Tailgating and weaving in and out of traffic are often triggered by someone lane hogging after all.

Trouble is their actions caused your re-action - and if a policeman had seen you slow down to 50 then speed off to 100 - I wonder who would have gotten the ticket.

So instead of cameras on bridges filming speeds only - why not judge the distance between cars and give tickets for dangerous driving if too close to car in front..... yes I know its hard to prove, but when a car is behind you at 70 mph (lets be legal out there) and you can't read his numberplate as he is so close - I would call that dangerous driving.
