Had an idiot tailgate me on the A71 today in the pouring rain and mist on a 50mph zone.

Was on cruise control at 50 when a 'Malcolm' motorway maintenance van decided to get so close to my back bumper that all I could see in my rearview mirror was the driver.

Duly knocked the cruise control off to slow down, if he wants to play bumper cars I'm not doing it at 50mph, and only once I'd decelerated to about 30 did he finally pass.

That's the way, pull a little bit left too. Remember these people are full of drugs and can do just about anything at any time........

Irritating and unsafe. That method of slowing down gradually is a good one. I am often tempted to touch the brake pedal just enough to trigger the brake light. Not wanting to cause an accident, I tend to pull into the slower stream of traffic and the problem drives off. I use the cruise control a lot and just knocking it off would serve to scrub a little speed off relatively slowly, without showing any brake lights. I will give it a try. :)

That's how I play it too. They soon realise that no amount of pushing is going to make me go any quicker.

+1. Just ease off the accelerator. You can normally see the steam start to come out of their ears prior to the explosion and the inevitable down into 3rd screw the nuts out of their poor little beast of burden, blowing black smoke as it goes past.:D:D Makes me chuckle anyway.:thumb:

The best of it was I was in the inside lane and the overtaking lane was clear for as far as I could see. Makes me wonder what he was trying to achieve - slipstreaming maybe to save a few mpg? Ha ha, nevermind he's probably busy cursing me on ihatemercdrivers.com
