Hi all,
I have a Merc W124 230E 1990 .

I want to refurbish the front grille as a whole.. inside and out, so i want to take it off.. Ive undone the 2 hex nuts on the side but the top part where the star emblem is still stuck on.. i bend the grill to take it off but it wont come off?

Does anyone know how to take the whole grille off? Or give me any help.

Thanks

Have you taken the clips off that hold the surround on ?

Think they are on the corners , you need to lever them off with a screwdriver

There are a further 4 bolts hidden under the bonnet front lip that need to be undone before the grill will come off.

Any pictures of where the 4 hidden bolts are?? Sorry im being a pain but cant seem to see them..

Their position should correspond to the holes in the bonnet lip which allow you to get a socket through :)

hmmm.. i will go to the car now and take a look.
So all together i should undo 6 hex bolts then.. and 4 clips that hold the plastic grille inside.?

If its a facelift it should be virtually the same as my W202 How to, check the HOWTO section... :)

its a pre facelift...

Did you get it off yet? As said there's 4 small bolts/screws that you might need a small torch or something to see.

BTW, the laurel wreath emblem will snap when you remove it, so you might want to order a spare if you're refurbishing it.

Also - MB do a repair kit which comes complete with all of the new clips etc if you're keen :)

Will

do i need to remove the mercedes star emblem on top?

Use a qtr drive socket set, the bolts in the middle are a bit tight for anything else, other than that it's an easy job.
