Taming my autowipers

Is it possible to adjust the sensitivity of autowipers (W209)? This car is the first time I've such a device and its a bit of a pain. I get constant slow speed when it should be intermittent, fast when it should be slow etc.

At the moment I have to choose between manual operation for intermittent or a constant slow setting to stop my wipers from destroying themselves.

My blades are getting a bit geriatric, and do not clear the sensor area properly any more. I'm guessing your problem is very likely the same thing.

Get some new blades!

I've only just got the car so I don't know how old the blades are, but they seem to be a good job - nice clear view etc. I'll have a closer look though. Thanks.

What I should have added is that the blades may be clearing the middle of the blade/screen OK, but if they are not clearing at the edges effectively as well then they will not clear the sensor area properly, as this is at the top of the screen and therefore at the outer edge of the blade.

You could also try swapping them round (if they are the same length!) to see if this makes a difference?

Of course, this may not be the issue, but it is worth checking first as it's probably the easiest fix!
