Hoping someone here might be able to help or offer some insight. I couldn't find anything similar posted already so thought I'd ask
I drive a 2020 Mercedes A45s and ran into a concerning issue yesterday. I gave it some acceleration and noticed a tapping noise when the revs got high. I pulled over, turned the car off, and popped the bonnet. I couldn’t visibly see anything wrong, but there was a definite burning smell coming from the engine bay.
After letting the car rest for a bit, I started it again and let it idle. The tapping returned occasionally, and I noticed white smoke coming from behind the turbo area, toward the back of the engine bay.
Later on, when driving again, the tapping came back and became more noticeable — it speeds up with higher revs and slows as the revs drop. The burning smell also returned.
Has anyone experienced anything similar or have any ideas on what this could be? Any advice would be greatly appreciated before I take it into a garage.
