I pray it's not that I have no warranty on the car. Oil was checked and topped up 2'days ago the tapping sound as now gone and she's running great but thst noise scared me
it could be a sticky tappet don't worry much about it!:thumb:

I had same issue though car was old and when warmed up noise disappeared. Panicked took car home and googled it...

Panic over seems to be common that tapper might stick when cold occasionally.
Never happened again, once in 4 months I can live with.

I THINK I may have had this last week after the car (2013 C63) sat for 8hrs between a morning run and drive home on our first really cold day of Autumn.

It was like a metallic clanking sound I suppose, like a tappet but then again I've heard similar noises when pulleys get dirt in them and make a similar chuffing noise. It disappeared as soon as it got warm but as soon as I was home I got in the engine bay and lubed everything up. In terms of performance, it's as free revving, responsive and neck snapping quick as ever.

It hasn't returned at present, even yesterday on the coldest Autumn day of 2014 so far so I'm crossing my fingers. Car is with warranty so I'll keep close eye on it and send it back if need be.

I'm assuming that if this becomes the more serious issue as linked by The Don, then this noise is constant and always there?

I had exactly the same sound on my 11 plate C63 with 22k miles. The car had been stood for a week while at the Wheel Specialist having all 4 wheels re furbed.
Jumped in the car and started her up - constant tapping sound - my heart sank!
Turned engine off and waited 5mins - re started, damn still there!
Decided to drive at no more than 50mph all way home, if still there when I pull off motorway I will call in at local MB dealer and see what they say?
After leaving the motorway I pulled over and the noise had gone, glad to say its not reared its ugly head again, car is thankfully running sweet and pulls as strong as ever, as I would expect with only 22k on the clock.
As she is not a daily driver I make sure I take her out every week for a run, just to keep the battery topped up and the oil circulated.

noise

Well i think i would be the same,my heart would be in my top pocket. Me i would warm her up, put some engine flush in and give it a run, then drain off and install the right oil for it even if i had to buy Merc oil with a new filter also. Wrong oil can bring on all type of engine noise. The oil may be to thick so it will not get through the small oilways made for thinner type of oils.Thats just me .

I'm using the correct oil Mobil 1 0-40w was serviced at 24500 now sitting at 27500

I have had this on about 3 occasions over 14 months on my 2013 507 - last time was after it sat in the garage for two weeks just recently - sounds like tappets to me - maybe low oil pressure or something - took it easy then it went away so not too fussed.

Mine did this once after topping up the oil. Ticked away until warm and was then fine thereafter.
