You can get this info for free from DC HQ in Milton Keynes. I rang them a few years ago about my own car and they asked me for the VIN - fired it through a database and it came back with nothing. I asked about the airbag recall and they said my car wasn't in the range of VINs affected.

Remember that in the UK there is no legal requirement to recall vehicles, and the yanks are quick to do it because of litigation and the "lemon laws".

Got a w202 with a creaky seat frame? Recall in the USA - UK they make you buy a new seat frame.

On the same vein (but not very MB oriented), one of the reasons I now own an MB instead of a BMW:
Known problem with their dashboard control module (all sorts of wierd behaviour and failures): In the USA, BMW North America actually monitor the BMW forums and step in with a free replacement to anybody reporing a problem (any age of vehicle). When mine failed, BMW UK said it was not a known problem (and it costs £600+ to replace). Funny how the dealer knew all about it, though....
