Coming home this afternoon stopped at traffic lights on a dual carriageway in Woodford, Essex, behind a red C63, and on the inside lane was a Tesla S, clear road ahead I said to the Mrs open up your window and listen to the AMG roar off sensing there was going to be a burn up away from the lights.

Lights turned amber and the Tesla took off like nothing I have ever seen before, talk about instant power or what!!

I think the C63 driver wasn't trying though as he just pulled off at a normal speed

Was wondering if the C63 owner is a member on here

Not a lot would catch a Tesla in 'insane mode'

I've driven the Tesla in insane mode and it's very aptly named can't think of anything off hand that would catch it. The official time is 2.8 secs but if you reconfig the power delivery it can reputedly do 2.1.

Porsche 918 spyder maybe or LA Ferrari

To put it in perspective an F1 car is about 1.7 secs

Tesla are mad fast to 60.

I'm being badgered by Chris to pre order a Tesla for him. I'm not yet convinced by the tech!

There's someone up the road from me who has just taken delivery of a Tesla to go with his SL65 - not that I'm envious mind you...

RS200 Evolution homologated BTD-E 2.1 liter 0-60 ..2.1 secs world record holder for a very long time, not the road-going version obviously...but it was nigh on 20 yrs ago.

I haven't driven a Tesla, but a guy I know through work has. He's a bit of a BMW fanatic and has an F10 M5. He was thoroughly less than complimentary about the way the Tesla drives... sounds like it's quick to accelerate but missing some of the finer nuances of what makes a good driver's car.

A bit like the Astra GTE v Golf GTi argument from my youth :-)

I've driven a Tesla and have to agree. Smooth and impressive but detached. Note they don;t all have "insane" mode, I think it's an option

Detached is a very apt word it really does feel like that for a performance car. So does the i8 for that matter. I think the only time it works is when you have the electric motor and a small high power engine working together in a performance car

It hasn't been positioned as the ultimate drivers car. That isn't the market they are after, so its quite understandable it doesn't reach those levels really.

"Insane mode" is so last year, the latest Tesla option is "ludicrous mode"
