I'm sure the aircon on my c220cd is faulty, however being a BMW man I've never come across the EC button, does this turn the AC off, it so I'm assuming the wheels control the temperature. Is there a way to test what component have failed or if a simple regassing is required?

EC light on = A/C off

Turn the EC off so the A/C is running, the compressor clutch should engage (you might hear it) and the air con should be blowing very cold on the blue part of the dials.
