Can I thether my mobile phone to my laptop when a wireless signal is unavailable?

I'm not sure my mobile provider would approve of regular use, but sometimes it would be useful. :)

Any ideas how I can use my phone as a modem?

TIA.

Paul.

Yes you can do this but beware of mobile charges which can be astronomical if not part of a data bundle (which tethering normally isnt).

in short yes

depends on make & model, might use blue tooth, more likely a cable.

If a nokia, down load nokia pc suite & you are away.

personally I use this method when abroad, with a foreignsim, as roaming charges are prohibitive.

Thanks guys.

I have a Samsung Omnia i8910 (Nokia based symbian software).

My contract data usage is a reasonable size, so is it do-able?

TIA.

Paul.

Our large firm issues road staff with Blackberries, and is very liberal in letting us use them for personal use including abroad, web browsing and the rest.

It imposes only one prohibition, which is using them as a tethered modem. The data costs are too high.

It can still be as high as £2 per mb nationally (up to £20 per mb internationally) if using data outside of inclusive bundle so receiving a single powerpoint via email and forwarding it on could cost £20.

Far better to purchase a Mifi box with inclusive data and use it for all your mobile internet needs.
