W124 E300 Diesel 1995
Today I sold my 1995 E300D and delivered it to its new owner. I owned the car for 5 years and 5 days.

This must say something about Mercedes-Benz because I have had over 30 cars since my first 37 years ago, keeping them for an average of only 15 months. Previously, the longest I had ever kept a car was just over 2 years, so keeping this one for 5 years really stands out.

My E300 Diesel had 111,200 miles when I bought it and 141,200 miles today. It cost me £2500 to buy and sold for £1400, meaning that it depreciated by £1100 in five years, or only £220 a year. It averaged 36-37 mpg on DERV. That's cheap motoring!

The MBClub forum has been a considerable help in enjoying my 5 years of Mercedes ownership because, whatever happened, there were people here who could give helpful advice, and often did. I am very grateful for that, because it made owning a Mercedes much more of a pleasure than it might have been.

I would particularly like to thank Ian Walker of 124Works who took an ailing 606 engine and turned it into a powerhouse! There are plenty of good Mercedes specialists but only a select few in the outstanding category, and Ian's dedication to his customers is something that I will never forget.

Poor health means that car ownership is not the highest priority for me just now, but if I should ever buy another Mercedes-Benz, I will be back! Thanks again, everyone.

It is unfortunate that you are having to leave the forum. You dont have to own an MB to be a member. Stay a while, visit now and again, don't leave for good, you can join in the banter.

^^^^ + 1.

Good luck and good health to you.

Stay with the forum, you have 5 MB experience and may be able to help others.
Get well soon

You don't have to leave just because your cars gone.

Some people on here own BMW's and other stuff..... :)

Stay around for the banter

I still frequent a BMW forum, and I've not owned a BMW since 2005...

It's not mandatory to leave, unless you can't stand the people!

If they can let me stay, anybody can!!

Wish you well and a speedy recovery fella :thumb:

Tony, as other people have said. You don't have to go because you are no longer driving. Stay and enjoy. BTW thanks for those words of praise (although I don't think I deserve them). I remember your car to this day. Such a nice beast to work on. Keep well and keep smiling.

As others have said, no need to leave because the Merc has gone, you now have 5 years of Mercedes owners experience and will probably be able to help a few people on here. Stick around, and get well soon.
